HTTP Secure which is most commonly known as https stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS). HTTPS is the Internet’s secure way of handling data securely over a network the protocol is commonly used for processing payments and logins within major corporations such as Google and Yahoo.

The difference between the standard http is that the http://” protocol uses port 80 by default, HTTPS URLs begin with “https://” and use port 443 by default our advice when logging into websites such as Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Orkut and hotmail just to name a few is make sure that you are always using the https protocol in your web address in fact most of the websites now redirect you to the correct destination url if your not :)
